AU$95K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Nutty Fish Cakes recipe card
over 1 year ago – Sun, Nov 13, 2022 at 10:59:27 PM

AU$95K and we've unlocked the last of our recipe cards!

This unlock completes our set of 5 stretch goal recipe cards that all require a Wild Fruit in their cost and provide a unique Market Bonus. I think this recipe will be one of the most sought after in the game, just don't let Ol' Grizz get a hold of it!

New Recipe - Nutty Fish Cakes

What does it do? If completed from the Market, the Nutty Fish Cakes allow the player to put a Trap card from their hand onto another players Discard AT THE END OF EVERY ROUND! Why is that good? I think this is pretty obvious, but I'll try to spell it out. At the end of each round when you normally can't discard a Trap card from your hand, instead you can remove it completely from your deck, and to top it off you also get to impose that card on another player! Don't stress about going foraging any more in case you find a Trap, bring it on, you can just weaponise the card later. If you like the thought of playing Ol' Grizz and giving the other players a hard time, this one's for you, just don't expect to make any friends! Oh, did I also mention it's worth a whopping 4 or 5 points as well!!

The Quackalope has spoken!

We'd love to share an awesome video from Jesse, West and Michael from Quackalope who reached out to us and asked if they could record a play through of Survival of the Fattest. It looks like the boys had a lot of fun and had some really nice things to say about the game. Jesse's bunnies didn't fare to well against Ol' Grizz but we'll make sure we let him know there was a couple of rule mistakes that went against him, definitely enough reason for a rematch!

"It's cute, it's adorable, it's a fantastic theme, it's simple and accessible to play, but still some nice little take that punchy moments." - Jesse

"This game is 100% going to be in my collection for the record. It’s so fun, cute little game." - West

Still to come...

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Survival of the Fattest and continues to do so by spreading the word. We have some great stretch goals still to come and we've still got plenty of time to get them unlocked! Next up is some custom artwork on all the player boards, I think everyone would love to see this. While the current boards are pretty they utilise artwork from the main game board, unlocking this goal will really give your critter a unique looking area to keep their cards and stash away all their food!

AU$90K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Printed Insert in Standard Edition
over 1 year ago – Thu, Nov 10, 2022 at 11:50:35 PM

We've passed AU$90K and unlocked full colour printing on the Standard Edition cardboard insert!

A few days ago we deluxified the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition with spot UV printing on the box cover, now we are giving the Standard Edition of the game a glow up with a full colour printed cardboard insert! The final artwork and design of the insert is yet to be finalised, we will do this after all components are confirmed to ensure that everything fits nicely organised into the box.

Food, glorious food!

While we have shown plenty of critter artwork from the game, we're equally proud of the food cards that they'll be competing to collect. The various food cards are required to feed your critter (very important!) and complete recipes from the Market.

Above you can see some of the card development. The first iteration had a much simpler look to the illustrations as we needed something quick to produce for early stage play testing. Once we settled on the illustration style for the game, we then experimented a bit with various graphic elements and layouts.

The finished designs include the 6 basic food types plus a Wild Fruit and Trap card. Each foraging location and the Trading Post deck include a randomized selection of these cards. We wanted to ensure that these resource cards had just as much visual appeal as the other artwork featured in the game. Let us know your favourite food illustration in the comments.

AU$80K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Eton Mess Recipe Card
over 1 year ago – Thu, Nov 10, 2022 at 08:27:46 PM

More recipes, what a delicious mess!

Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of berries, meringue, and whipped cream. This special recipe require 3 ingredients including a Wild Fruit. It delivers a powerful bonus if completed directly from the Market or high points if reserved!

New Recipe - Eton Mess

What does it do? If completed from the Market, the Eton Mess recipe allows the player to put 1 of the face up Food cards from the Trading Post into their hand at the end of each round! Why is that good? Normally any foraged food goes into your discard and works its way through your deck and into your hand. Being able to add a choice of 4 cards directly into your hand at the end of each round opens up a lot more options for completing other recipes directly from the Market and therefore increasing your access to in game bonuses!

Thanks for all the feedback on the painted miniatures in our last update. We're working hard on finishing up Huni & Bunz to show off next. We will also be taking a closer look at the Solo Mode and how that works in a future update, so keep an eye out for that. If there is anything in particular you would like us to show or discuss, let us know in the comments and we'll do our best to make it happen!

AU$85K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Carrot Top Pesto recipe card
over 1 year ago – Thu, Nov 10, 2022 at 08:27:39 PM

AU$85K and another great recipe to keep you satisfied during winter!

Another stretch goal recipe card has been unlocked! This card features a powerful ability if completed from the Market or a whopping 5 points if reserved!

New Recipe - Carrot Top Pesto

What does it do? If completed from the Market, the Carrot Top Pesto recipe allows the player to spend Food cards from their stash as though they were in their hand! Why is that good? This card has an amazing ability that helps set up your game in 2 ways. Firstly, having access to the Food in your stash when at the Market provides significantly increased opportunities to complete further recipes there and chain together a few bonus effects. The other, less obvious advantage is that it allows you to take a sneaky peek through your stash every time you visit the Market (even if you don't use any of the cards that turn). This can be very handy when you're trying to remember if you have every thing that you need stashed before the end of season!

If we can keep the funds coming we unlock some beautiful printing on the cardboard inserrt for the Standard Edition backers. C'mon you Deluxe Kickstarter Edition backers, they helped you out with spot UV printing, now it's your turn to return the favour 😉
