AU$75K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Spot UV printing

We've passed AU$75K and unlocked a deluxification of the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition!

We've blown past another stretch goal and unlocked beautiful Spot UV printing on the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition box! The Spot UV effect shall be applied to the logo elements on the box cover, which will provide an extra glossy finish. This will enhance the luxurious feel of the design and give it great contrast from the background.

While I'm definitely not a professional miniature painter, I have been working my way through painting a set of miniatures for our office prototype (who says you cant play test in style!). Here's a look at how I'm going, 4 out of 8 critters down.

$70K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Secret Spices recipe card

$70K and another stretch goal down!

The second of our stretch goal recipe cards has been unlocked, these recipes require a Wild Fruit in their cost and provide a unique Market Bonus when completed directly from the Market. Stringing a couple of Market bonuses together can really boost your critters performance and give you the edge over your opposition!

New Recipe - Secret Spices

What does it do? If completed from the Market, the secret spices recipe allows the player to move up to 2 Food cards from their discard to their stash! Why is that good? While you have to be careful about the timing of completing this recipe (make sure your discard is stocked with food), an opportunity to stash a couple of cards of your choice is a huge advantage. As well as picking up a handy 2 victory points, this bonus could gain you an extra completed recipe at the end of the season and set you up for a winning score!

Let's keep up the momentum and get to the next stretch goal as quickly as possible. When we reach $75K, this gets us beautiful spot UV printing on the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition box. Our prototype boxes all featured this printing upgrade and we can definitely say it really makes the design pop!

$65K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Special Sauce recipe card

Well done everyone, we've unlocked another stretch goal!

All of the the stretch goal recipe cards require a Wild Fruit in their cost and provide a unique Market Bonus when completed directly from the Market. Getting the right Market bonuses for your strategy can be a real game changer so make sure you look out for these Wild Fruit recipes at the Market!

New Recipe - Special Sauce

What does it do? If completed from the Market, the special sauce recipe increases the players hand size by 2! Why is that good? Survival of the Fattest uses a bit of a twist on the deck building mechanic where instead of just adding cards to your deck, you need to cycle those cards through your discard, to your deck, then into your hand and ultimately into your stash where you can spend it at the end of the season. Sometimes you can bypass a step by spending food directly from your hand at the Market, but you need to make sure you have the right combination of cards in hand at the right time. An increased hand size lets you cycle through those cards in your deck faster (and therefore get them into your stash faster) and also allows a greater combination of cards in hand to make it easier to pick up cards directly from the Market, it's a win-win!

Dirty Rascal Games at The Board Game Getaway

Yesterday, Dirty Rascal Games spent the day at The Board Game Getaway on Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia. We had a lovely time meeting up with local gamers and ran demo games of Survival of the Fattest throughout the day. Everyone seemed to have a great time playing and we loved hearing all of the positive feedback. Hopefully we'll have a few more happy backers joining us on the campaign and helping us hit those stretch goals!

Fully Funded Foraging Fun! - With surprise unlocks!

Best day ever!

What an awesome day, we got there! Thanks to all our amazing backers for your support and help to spread the word and promote Survival of the Fattest. It's such a great feeling knowing we can deliver this game to you all and be part of the experience when you finally get to sit down and play it with your friends and family.

What next?

Well, while it's great to celebrate this win, we are continuing to work hard behind the scenes. We are in constant discussions and negotiations with our manufacturing partners trying to wrangle the best quality components we can out of every dollar. We are obtaining revised shipping estimates and exploring other shipping opportunities to make sure that when it comes to that point we can provide you the best price possible. And of course we are continuing to design and develop the gameplay to ensure that you enjoy the best playing experience possible.

We have thought long and hard about the game we want to release and the playing experience we want you, our awesome supporters to have. With some amazing offers of help from our new backer friends and some financial assistance from our local community, we have been able to re-structure our stretch goals and provide some of those upgrades right now! This ensures that you get the best product and we can slide some of those other achievements down to lower targets, what a winning combination!  

Card Quality & Card Finish Upgrade (2 Unlocks)

2 Unlocks in 1! All cards in the game will be upgrade from art paper to premium quality card stock with beautiful linen finish. These upgrades will enhance your cards by making them easier to handle, reduce glare and provide a smoother shuffling experience. The upgraded card stock will increases the card durability, meaning you get to enjoy your game for longer.

Translations (2 Unlocks)

We have had lots of feedback from our supporters all over the world, who are very keen to see the rulebook and a card glossary translated into other languages. We would very much love to share Survival of the Fattest with as many gamers as possible. With that in mind, we would like to announce that we will unlock these stretch goals! We will provide a digital download of the rulebook, including a card glossary in French, German, Italian and Spanish over the coming months. Solo Mode (Unlock)

One of the things we have been working hard on and play testing extensively is our Solo Mode. In fact we have worked so hard that we can't bear the thought of you having to wait any longer to see it unlocked! We are very happy with the mechanics, it provides a fun experience that still feels like playing the multiplayer game and without too much admin and upkeep managing the AI.

To provide a challenge for all players, we have developed 3 levels of difficulty in the AI. These difficulty levels take the form of 3 different opponents you can play against, each with more powerful abilities and effects on the game. At the base level you will be facing off against De Mort,  a little mouse-like critter known as a Vole (yep, you saw what we did!). If you're up for a tougher challenge you can test yourself against Harriet, the hawk. Her keen eyes and sharp talons will give her a distinct advantage when competing for food in the foraging phase. And lastly, if being crushed and humiliated is your thing, Alfie the wolf will be more than happy to oblige.

Keep them critters rollin' - We're passed the 2/3 mark!

Great progress so far!

Congratulations backers, you've done such an amazing job! We're now more than 2/3 of the way to our target and you have pledged over AU$40K. We've still got plenty of time in this campaign to reach our funding goal and then start unlocking those stretch goals. 

Things you can do to help promote the campaign and get us to our goal faster:

• Spread the word to friends and family or anyone with an interest in games, cute chunky critters or helping a new Designer/Publisher get off the ground. If you're part of a regular gaming group, make sure you mention Survival of the Fattest there, once we fund you'll all be able to enjoy playing the game together!
• Comment and share on social media. This is where most people hear news about new games and releases. While we have made a good effort to post about the game, make sure the groups and communities you frequent online have heard about Survival of the Fattest too.
• Visit the projects Kicktraq page and click on the visit project link. Doing this daily as well as being active in the comments section of the campaign will help us get noticed on Kicktraq's hot projects list. We made it up to 12 but I reckon we can crack the top 10!  

Who's your spirit animal?

Speaking of being active in the comments, we'd love to know which critter are you most drawn to and why? Who will you play with first?

Ol' Grizz - The undisputed boss of the woodland. Thos other critters are best to stay clear as he doesn't like to share! Being the biggest and baddest critter around, Ol' Grizz has a distinct advantage when foraging for food and can cause the other critters some real hassles with his trick cards.

Bucky - Bucky can be a little shy. He performs best when he doesn't have to compete with the other woodland critters. When Bucky manages to forage alone, all the food he finds goes directly into his stash ready for the end of season.

Lottie - Lottie thrives in the water. She doesn't like to stray too far from Pebblebrook. She knows all of the best foraging spots along the river bank. While Lottie can be a little predictable, her special abilities allow her to filter through the cards at Pebblebook and pick the tastiest food for herself while dispersing traps to the other locations.

Huni & Bunz - The dynamic duo of the woodland. They are able to work together in harmony or split up to cover more territory! The ability to forage in 2 locations each turn make them a food finding powerhouse, just make sure you have some recipes to spend all that food on.

Oakley - This squirrel loves company; the more the merrier! Sometimes his sticky fingers gets him in trouble but he's always willing to share the spoils with his friends. To maximise Oakley's card cycling ability he needs to forage with other critters, increasing his hand size will let him get to any cards in his deck quickly.

Flit - The master marketeer; she always finds the best recipes! Who needs to stash all that food for winter when there's tasty treats to eat right now? Flit will have an abundance of recipes to choose from and is exceptional at completing them from the Market to grab those Market Bonuses. Keep plenty of food in your deck to make sure you always have the right ingredients at hand. 

Deluxe Kickstarter Editions & Mini Expansions

As a few of the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition pledges have added the Mini Expansion Pack, we just wanted to provide a little reminder that these are already included in the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition. If you have backed the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition, your game will include all 3 mini expansions, they do not need to be added (unless you want an extra set).

The Standard Edition does not include the Mini Expansion Pack, if you pledged at this level and want the mini expansions, make sure to add the Mini Expansion Pack to your pledge.
